Intuit is now offering QuickBooks Desktop software as an annual subscription. Subscription versions include the word “Plus” in their name. QuickBooks Desktop software Pro, Premier, and QuickBooks for Mac versions will also still be available as a “one-time purchase.” Starting in 2021, the QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise version will ONLY be available with an annual subscription.
Keep in mind that Intuit has a discontinuation policy for QuickBooks desktop software every three years. This means that while you can continue to use the downloaded software, you will no longer have access to live support and business services such as payroll services, online backup, or other QuickBooks Merchant services. As of May 31, 2021, QuickBooks 2018 versions will be discontinued. This is not applicable to annual subscription “Plus” versions going forward.

New features for all 2021 QuickBooks Desktop products:
- Improved bank feeds when “Advanced Mode” is selected for bank feeds under Company Preferences for Checking. This provides enhanced rules, the ability to edit a batch of transactions, and improved matching efficiency.
- Tools to customize and format payment receipts
- Ability to create rule-based customer groups allowing for communication management and automation
- Automated statement setup to schedule payment reminders and statements to be sent to customers
- Ability to preview email invoice attachments before sending to customers
