COVID-19 relief from unemployment compensation charges, which was part of [Act 9 of 2020](https://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/li/uconsCheck.cfm?yr=2020&sessInd=0&act=9) enacted on March 27, 2020, added Section 206.1 to the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Act, which expired at the end of 2020. This means that benefits paid for unemployment claims in 2021 will be charged to your account unless you are granted relief.

## How can my business be granted relief for an unemployment claim?

You can request relief by emailing the following information to uiempcharge@pa.gov: 

- Claimant’s full name and last 4 digits of their Social Security Number
- Employer’s name and Pennsylvania UC account number
- Last day the claimant worked
- Detailed, but brief, separation information or reason you are requesting the relief from charges
- Name and contact information of the person completing the information

## PA's New Unemployment Compensation System

In June 2021, the Pennsylvania Department of Labor will launch an updated Unemployment Compensation system, which is designed to make sure people will get the benefits they need while also reducing the opportunity for fraud.
