Updated Tax Filing Deadlines

Here are the current deadlines for tax filing and payment as of April 17, 2020.

Federal

The Federal tax filing deadline is extended to July 15, 2020. 1st Quarter and 2nd Quarter Federal Estimates are due 7/15/2020.

States

Pennsylvania

The Department of Revenue announced the deadline for taxpayers to file their 2019 Pennsylvania personal income tax returns is extended to July 15, 2020.

Similar to Federal, Pennsylvania is waving interest and penalties on payments through the July 15, 2020 extended deadline.

Pennsylvania's first and second quarter estimates for 2020 have also been extended to July 15, 2020. Currently, 2019 County Income Taxes and 1st quarter estimates are still due April 15, 2020. We anticipate the counties will extend their deadlines to match Pennsylvania.

Maryland

The deadline to file a 2019 Maryland income tax return is July 15, 2020. Interest and penalty shall be assessed on any unpaid tax from July 15, 2020 until the date the tax is paid.

Counties 

Please note each county must make their own decision as to if and when they will extend their tax deadline. Below is a list of surrounding counties and their decisions so far. 

Lancaster County

Lancaster County has extended their tax deadline to July 15, 2020.  This extension covers payments due with the 2019 return and 1st quarter and 2nd quarter 2020 estimates.

Berks County

Both the IRS and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue have extended the income tax return filing and payment date from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020. The Berks Earned Income Tax Bureau is also extending the local income tax return due date (filing of the return and payment of any amount owed) from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020, as well as any estimated payments for the first quarter of 2020. The Bureau will waive penalty and interest on the 2019 individual income tax payments as long as the individual files their return and pays the tax due on or before July 15, 2020.

York/Adams County

Following the announcements by the IRS and the PA Dept. of Revenue, YATB has extended the filing deadline for 2019 Individual Earned Income Tax Returns to July 15, 2020. This means taxpayers will have an additional 90 days to file from the original deadline of April 15. YATB will also waive penalties and interest on 2019 earned income tax payments through the new deadline of July 15, 2020. This extension applies to both final 2019 tax returns and payments, and estimated payments for the first quarter of 2020.

Chester, Dauphin & Lebanon County

The PA Department of Revenue and the IRS announced that income tax filing deadlines for both the final return (2019) and the 1st Quarter (2020) are extended to July 15, 2020. For local EIT purposes, Keystone is accordingly extending these Individual filing deadlines to match the State and Federal date of July 15. Keystone will not apply penalty and interest on Tax Year 2019 Final Return payments nor 1st Quarter estimates until after July 15, 2020.

Cumberland County 

The Cumberland County Tax Bureau is waiving penalties and interest through the new filing deadline of July 15, 2020, on 2019 individual tax returns and payments and also estimated payments for the first quarter of 2020.

Franklin County 

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and consistent with action taken by the IRS and PA DOR, the Bureau will waive late filing fees on any individual taxpayer who fails to file his or her 2019 local earned income tax return by the April 15 deadline, so long as the individual files on or before July 15, 2020.


The Bureau will also waive penalties and interest on 2019 individual income tax payments through the new federal and state deadline of July 15, 2020. This extension applies to both final 2019 tax returns and payments, and estimated payments for the first quarter of 2020.

Perry County use Capital Tax Collection Bureau – The IRS and PA Department of Revenue extended the tax filing deadline for the 2019 final returns and the 1st Quarter, 2020 estimated payment to July 15th , 2020. Capital Tax Collection Bureau is extending the individual Local Earned Income Tax Filing and 1st quarter 2020 estimated payments for individuals along with the IRS and PA Department of Revenue. Capital Tax Collection Bureau will not apply penalty and interest on tax year 2019 Local Earned Income Tax Filings and 1st Quarter Estimated until after the July 15th, 2020 due date.
